CHOICE

Gabor Mate in his book, “When the Body Says No” (2003), says at Page 239:

“Whichever modality of treatment people choose – conventional medicine with or without complementary healing; alternative approaches like energy medicine or various mind – body techniques; ancient Eastern practices like Ayurvedic medicine or yoga or Chinese acupuncture; the universal practice of meditation techniques; psychotherapy; nutritional healing – the key to healing is the individual’s active, free and informed choice.”

LIFESTYLE CHANGES MAY SLOW PROGRESSION OF PROSTATE CANCER

Men with prostate cancer who change their diet and make other lifestyle changes may also improve the course of their disease, according to investigators who published their findings in the September 2005 issue of The Journal of Urology.
The investigative team headed by Dean Ornish, MD found that a completely vegetarian diet, in combination with exercise and meditation, was associated with a reduction in baseline PSA and an inhibitor of growth of prostate carcinoma cells when the experimental and control groups were compared.

SUN LOWERS PROSTATE CANCER RISK
.
The more sun a man is exposed to, the lower his risk of developing advanced prostate cancer, suggests the largest study of its kind to look into the anti-cancer effects of sunlight. The research adds to emerging evidence that exposure to UV rays, which increases the body's vitamin D production. may help prevent the most common cancer in Canadian men.
California researchers who measured UV exposure in more than 900 men from the San Francisco Bay area found those without cancer had significantly more lifetime solar exposure than men with advanced prostate cancer. Those with the highest amount of UV exposure, as measured by forehead tanning, had half the risk of prostate cancer than men with the lowest.
.
The study was reported in the June 15th issue of the journal Cancer Research.

A WONDERFUL BOOK FOR THOSE ON A HEALING JOURNEY
.
Sister Eileen Curteis is a Sister of Saint Ann who conducts healing and Reiki training for healing from the Queenswood Retreat Centre near Victoria, B.C. She has written several books, but the one I have just read is a compelling story of a person who has faced her own healing and approached it in a natural way. This book is very strongly recommended..........

" I believe holistic healing will be one of the greatest adventures of our century and for those of us who have the courage to embark on it, we will each in our turn be trail blazers who leave a legacy for the generations to come."

HEALING THROUGH SPIRITUALITY

Spirituality is an important tool for healing. I have just read a book I found very helpful: Jack Kornfield, A Path With A Heart, Bantam Books, 1993.

Some quotes:

"The greatest lesson I have learneed is that the universal must be wedded to the personal to be fulfilled in spiritual life."
"The body is present, the heart is soft and open, the mind is attentive."
"The seeds of wisdom, peace and wholeness are within each of our difficulties."
"This freedom and awakening, and this alone, is the purpose of any genuine spiritual path."
" Expanding our spirtitual practice is actually a process of expanding our heart, of widening our circle of insight and compassion to gradually include the whole of our life."

FACILTATING HEALING THROUGH MEDITATION.

I have spent the last two days at a private retreat at Queenswood Retreat Center near Victoria, B.C. This marvellous facility operated by the Sisters of St. Ann is on 15 acres of woodland with a brief walk to the ocean and edged by interesting houses in the area of Victoria known as Cadbora Bay. A private reteat means no structure but an excellent opportunity for reading, prayer, reflection and meditation. A room is available and meals are provided in the facility's dining room. And......it is not expensive! To be apart from the world for a brief time is a good tonic and a valuable tool of healing. Queenswood Retreat Centre has a good website with specific information.
