CENTRE FOR INTEGRATED HEALING - FACTS

(I get many questions about this valuable resource that is mentioned frequently in my story).

What We Do:

The Centre for Integrated Healing provides an integrated whole person approach to health with a specific focus on individuals living with cancer. Our medical doctors `coach' patients to explore and learn about a variety of wellness approaches to health and healing in addition to conventional cancer treatment. Our integrated cancer care model, which engages people in their own care, improves quality of life and reduces the likelihood of cancer recurrence.

Well-established Reputation:

· Co-founded in 1997 by Dr. Hal Gunn and Dr. R. Rogers, with +35 years combined cancer care experience.
· In 2001, Dr. R. Rogers was Order of B.C. recipient for his pioneering work in integrated cancer care
· Not-for-profit organization
· Provincially funded Medical Doctors
· Served over 3,000 cancer patients to date
· Capacity for 450 new cancer patients per year
· Canada's only government funded Integrated Cancer Care centre

CIH Eight Step Patient Approach:

1. `Fireside Chat' with a Medical Doctor -At the Centre, every Monday at 3:00pm with a medical doctor in attendance to answer questions. No appointment needed.
2. Introduction to Integrated Healing Program (Two Days) - Introduction to the Foundations of Health - such as fitness, rest and relaxation, proper nutrition and stress reduction. With this information the patient begins to develop an Individualized Cancer Care Plan. The program is held biweekly. (Refer to back page for specific details.)
3. Vitamin Consultation - Half hour appointment with a medical doctor to review the vitamins and supplements that a patient is taking and to ensure that these are safely integrated with their conventional treatments and medical condition.
4. Extended Medical Doctor Consultation(s) - One and a half hours to review history and provide the necessary coaching to help a patient continue to define their health goals and actions to achieve and maintain a healthier lifestyle. The doctor reviews complementary cancer care and discusses what can be safely integrated into an Individualized Cancer Care Plan. Example: fitness, relaxation, healthy nutrition.
5. Patient Research - Access to our website and extensive library of resource books and articles.
6. Classes - All Core Health classes are available to CIH cancer patients at no cost. Our classes include Nutrition Consultation and Cooking, Relaxation and Visualization, Meditation, Yoga and Support Groups.
7. Complementary Associate Practitioners - For fee consultations are available from a Naturopathic Doctor, Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Massage Therapist, and Music Therapist.
8.Follow-up Medical Doctor Consultations -To answer questions pertaining to a patient's personal research and put their Individualized Cancer Care Plan into action.
